French actress Brigitte Bardot was an icon of the 1950s and ‘60s. She saw fantastic fame during those decades and became a major sex symbol thanks to her good looks. But by the early 1970s she was gone – having apparently decided a Hollywood life wasn’t for her. The former actress still gives interviews and makes headlines, however, and she looks very different now.

Bardot was born in Paris in 1934 to parents Louis and Anne-Marie, who were very wealthy but also abusive. They didn’t allow their daughter to have many friends, chose her clothes for her and on occasion were physically violent. For example, when Bardot and her sister broke a vase as children, their father whipped them.
