It’s been 16 years since the world first met the Gilmore Girls and experienced the ups and down of both single parenthood and teenage life with protagonists Lorelai and Rory. But the beloved show hasn’t entirely left us just yet. In November 2016 there will be a new revival called A Year in the Life, which will allow fans to catch up with their favorite Stars Hollow residents. But what about the actors who played them? Well, let’s catch up with them too.
20. Alexis Bledel (Rory Gilmore)
Alexis Bledel had had no acting experience before she was cast as the intelligent and driven teenager Rory Gilmore, but she earned a shower of praise and awards for the role. A decade and a half after debuting in the role, then, and Bledel is noticeably older but still every bit as beautiful. Plus, she still has possibly the bluest eyes in showbiz.
19. Lauren Graham (Lorelai Gilmore)
Lorelai Gilmore is still considered one of the best TV moms of all time, and for good reason. Her warmth, her wit and the award-winning breakout performance of Lauren Graham combined to form a character you couldn’t help but love. And since Gilmore Girls ended, Graham has starred as another single mother in Parenthood – while remaining every inch the hot mama.
18. Keiko Agena (Lane Kim)
Keiko Agena was actually 27 years old when she was cast to play 15-year-old Lane Kim, the music-loving best friend of Rory Gilmore. Once the show was done, then, the still youthful-looking Agena continued to appear on TV in shows like Castle, House and Shameless. What’s more, she has also kept in close contact with Emily Kuroda, who played her on-screen mom.
17. Yanic Truesdale (Michel Gerard)
Yanic Truesdale’s Michel Gerard was a beloved, if rather mysterious, resident of Stars Hollow. And although Truesdale hasn’t appeared in much since Gilmore Girls ended, apparently Michel will be a big part of the revival. Furthermore, given that Truesdale has barely changed at all in those 16 years, he shouldn’t have much trouble slipping back into Michel’s shoes.
16. Scott Patterson (Luke Danes)
While no-one knows what the status of the Luke-Lorelai relationship will be in the revival of Gilmore Girls, it will almost certainly be an integral part of the show. And while actor Scott Patterson might appear a little more gray in the new specials, he nevertheless remains very handsome. Plus, he’s kept himself busy in the interim between seasons by appearing in projects including the Saw series and The Event.
15. Kelly Bishop (Emily Gilmore)
Lorelai’s mother Emily Gilmore started the show as an awful person who slowly grew more tolerable as time went on. But if not for the great acting skills of Kelly Bishop, she may have been completely irredeemable. It’s heartening to see, then, that the now 72-year-old Bishop is both still in demand on screen and could pass for someone a decade younger than her age.
14. Liza Weil (Paris Gellar)
Paris Gellar was originally intended to appear only for three episodes of the sitcom – but Liza Weil was so good at playing her that she became a popular recurring character. Since the show came to its 2007 close, then, Weil has cut her hair, aged fantastically and expanded her fandom with roles on Scandal and How to Get Away with Murder.
13. Jared Padalecki (Dean Foster)
Jared Padalecki won an army of female followers with his role as Rory’s first boyfriend Dean Foster in Gilmore Girls. And then he won them all again when he played Sam in the horror hit Supernatural! He was cute then, smoking hot now and, with Supernatural still ongoing after 12 seasons, he’ll probably never leave our TV screens.
12. Milo Ventimiglia (Jess Mariano)
Milo Ventimiglia played “bad boy” Jess Mariano for four seasons of Gilmore Girls, but he went on to to even bigger TV success after that. He’s best known now, in fact, as Peter Petrelli on the hit superhero show Heroes; in 2016, meanwhile, he branched out into playing an alcoholic patriarch on the well-received NBC series This Is Us.
11. Sean Gunn (Kirk Gleason)
The odd odd-job-man Kirk Gleason became one of the most popular characters on Gilmore Girls, and a lot of that was because of Sean Gunn’s endearing performance. Gunn is still best known for being Kirk, and is still instantly recognisable as Kirk, but he’s shown up in small roles in a lot of other things too. In 2017, moreover, he’ll be showing his range as Ravagers member Kraglin in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
10. David Sutcliffe (Christopher Hayden)
David Sutcliffe played Christopher Hayden, Rory’s father and Lorelai’s ex, on Gilmore Girls. And no doubt the announcement that Sutcliffe would be returning for the show’s revival sent shivers running down the spines of those who loved the Lorelai and Luke pairing. It remains to be seen, however, how it will all play out.
9. Matt Czuchry (Logan Huntzberger)
Rory broke up with Matt Czuchry’s Logan before Gilmore Girls ended, but that didn’t do anything to hurt Czuchry himself. He went on to star in critical darling The Good Wife from 2009 to 2016, and naturally he’ll return for the Gilmore Girls revival. Czuchry won’t, however, be needing any help to look just as he was before the show ended; in fact, he practically hasn’t aged a day since.
8. Jackson Douglas (Jackson Belleville)
Jackson Douglas played Jackson Belleville, friend to the Gilmores and eventual husband to Melissa McCarthy’s Sookie. Douglas directed three episodes of Gilmore Girls as well, but once it ended he fell off the radar somewhat, doing voiceover work instead. However, he’ll be back for the Gilmore revival to show that he’s only let the years weather him a little during his screen downtime.
7. Danny Strong (Doyle McMaster)
Fresh from his stint on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Danny Strong was cast in Gilmore Girls as Paris’ boyfriend Doyle McMaster. And Strong remained friends with all of the cast even as he went on to become an Emmy-winning screenwriter. He’ll return as Doyle in 2016, having matured beautifully in both his career and his physical appearance.
6. Emily Kuroda (Mrs Kim)
Emily Kuroda, who played Lane’s mother Mrs Kim, isn’t seen all that often on TV, but she is seen a lot on stage. She’s 63 now but still acting to this day, and she will be in the Gilmore Girls revival alongside her onscreen daughter Keiko Agena, with whom she has remained good friends.
5. Vanessa Marano (April Nardini)
Poor Vanessa Marano – her character April was subjected to a lot of hate when she appeared as Luke’s secret daughter. In fact, she was the catalyst for Luke and Lorelai breaking up. However, Marano herself is all grown up now, and she’s absolutely stunning. Plus, she’s returning for the Gilmore revival and she’s on Switched at Birth, too. She wins!
4. Liz Torres (Miss Patty)
Liz Torres, who played dance instructor Miss Patty, underwent by far the most dramatic physical transformation of any of the Gilmore Girls cast. She lost a great deal of weight, causing people to speculate that she’d had gastric bypass surgery. However, changed looks or not, many will be glad to see her back in her dancing shoes for the 2016 revival.
3. Todd Lowe (Zack Van Gerbig)
Todd Lowe went from being in the fictional band Hep Alien to being in a real one. Now, the man who played Zack Van Gerbig is in rock country band The LA Hootenanny, and he’s had a big role on the massively popular True Blood. Plus, he’s looking super-cool now to boot.
2. Chad Michael Murray (Tristan DuGrey)
Tristan DuGrey was the first of Rory Gilmore’s potential suitors, played by Chad Michael Murray. And while everyone’s heard of Murray now, before Gilmore Girls he was a complete unknown. Indeed, the show gave him his lucky break: after Gilmore Girls came One Tree Hill, and after that came stardom. Oh, and his consistent good looks probably helped, too.
1. Melissa McCarthy (Sookie St. James)
After Gilmore Girls, Melissa McCarthy basically went off and became massively famous. She starred in Bridesmaids, Spy, Ghostbusters and lots of other big films. In fact, she was so famous by 2016 that fans weren’t sure if she’d even return for the revival. Fortunately, though, she has!
