20. Miley Cyrus

She may be most famous for twerking, sticking out her tongue, eschewing clothes and occasionally singing, but Miley Cyrus also finds time in her busy schedule to help animal charities. What’s more, Cyrus has further proved her love of canines by adopting numerous rescue dogs, including an English bulldog, a sheepdog and a Yorkie mix.

Sorry, Eva Mendes, but it’s Ryan Gosling’s dog George whom the actor has deemed “the great love of [his] life.” The pooch has received special permission from authorities to travel with his heartthrob owner, and on the few occasions when the pair are apart, it’s even rumored that Gosling Skypes his canine chum.

Oprah Winfrey is no stranger to showing her caring side, so it’s perhaps no surprise that she treats her dogs very well indeed. Winfrey’s late cocker spaniel Solomon, it’s worth noting, even became a mainstay on her talk show. And the advocate of pet adoption has practiced what she preaches by taking home spaniel Sadie – one of her current brood of five canines – from a shelter in 2009.

17. Drew Barrymore

Drew Barrymore once said, “Babies and puppies, there is no more blissful thing.” It stands to reason that she’s a bit of a dog lover, then; and if his protective behavior is anything to go by, it seems that one of her two adopted mutts feels the same way about the actress’ daughter Olive. “[Douglas is] literally sitting, looking out the window in a guard dog position,” Barrymore told People in 2012.

Tom Hardy found dog Woody loose on a highway in Atlanta when working on 2012 film Lawless and took his new pal back to his London home. Rather adorably, Ian Somerhalder won the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals’ Dog’s Best Friend award at the World Dog Awards in January 2015. The Vampire Diaries actor was acknowledged for setting up the Ian Somerhalder Foundation, a charity aiming to stop animal cruelty and promote pet adoption.

14. Mark Zuckerberg

It’s perhaps understandable that the CEO of Facebook’s dog would have his very own page on the social network. Named Beast, Mark Zuckerberg’s canine companion is a Puli – a type of Hungarian sheepdog which closely resembles a mop. Beast’s own Facebook profile reveals more: he likes cuddles and “herding things,” apparently.

In May 2015 the Australian authorities discovered that Johnny Depp had illegally brought his dogs Boo and Pistol Down Under with him, and strict quarantine laws led to the pooches being issued with a would-be death warrant – unless they left the country immediately. After an emotional farewell, then, the actor spared no expense and had them flown back to the U.S. by private jet while he continued filming the latest Pirates of the Caribbean movie. Now that’s a man who loves his dogs.
