These Are The Worst-Reviewed Actors In Hollywood, Ranked

There are certain actors out there who everyone considers to be “the best.” Think Daniel Day-Lewis, Meryl Streep — all those veteran stars who elevate movies or TV shows just by being in them. But what about the actors on the other end of the spectrum? Reviews, ratings, and box-office takings just aren’t on their side. So be prepared for some major controversy ahead as we take a look at the actors loved by audiences — but not so much by critics.

40. Tommy Wiseau

Tommy Wiseau is the poster child of this kind of performer. His movie The Room is the stuff of legend. Its dialogue, direction, and acting all combine to create what is generally considered “the worst movie ever made.” Needless to say, it’s a cult hit. Strangely, Wiseau’s follow-up movie Best F(r)iends was better received but not as well remembered.

39. Madonna

Maybe Madonna should have stuck to singing, which she is good at. But alas, she didn’t. Throughout her acting career, she’s “won” no fewer than seven Razzies — the anti-Oscars given out for the worst performances of each year. That’s more than any other actress has ever got! Still, at least she has those seven Grammys to console her.

38. Gary Busey

Poor Gary Busey. Back in 1979, he garnered an Oscar nomination for his work in The Buddy Holly Story. But these days he’s best known for appearing on reality television and in, well, underseen films. Some of his more recent movies include Piranha 3DD and Sharknado: The 4th Awakens, which kind of says it all.

37. Jessica Alba

In 2018 Jessica Alba set a record no one would have wanted: the actress with the most poorly reviewed movies of the past two decades. The research was done by the British SEO agency Verve for the website Go Compare. The company deduced that in 20 years, Alba had just one positively reviewed film: Sin City.

36. William Shatner

William Shatner is beloved in geek culture for his role as Captain Kirk in Star Trek, but he’s… an acquired taste as a performer. His legendary work in the Star Trek franchise has, for example, seen him conducted into the Television Hall of Fame as well as earn him two Razzie Awards. Did we mention he has a music career, too?

35. Gwyneth Paltrow

Gwyneth Paltrow won an Oscar in 1999 for Shakespeare In Love — but not everyone thought she deserved it. In 2020 fellow actress Glenn Close told ABC’s Peter Travers that when Paltrow won, “I thought, ‘What?’ It doesn’t make sense.’” Close felt that Fernanda Montenegro was the better option for the award. Ouch.

34. John Travolta

John Travolta’s misses seem to far outweigh his hits. On Rotten Tomatoes, for instance, he has no fewer than seven movies with 0 percent ratings. These include Staying Alive, Look Who’s Talking Now, Gotti, and Trading Paint. He even “won” a Razzie for that last flick. And we didn’t even mention Battlefield Earth

33. Denise Richards

When Entertainment Weekly ranked the worst Bond girls ever, Denise Richards as Dr. Christmas Jones came in at number one. The publication decried the inexplicably sexualized nuclear physicist. Its verdict: “Even Q didn’t have a gadget to help Bond escape from that disaster.”

32. Nicolas Cage

Has any actor divided opinion like Nicolas Cage? Some think he’s a genius, and some have absolutely no idea why he has an Oscar under his belt. So even when Cage earns a Razzie Award nod for a performance, some fans think that he at least offers something different. What do you reckon?

31. Steven Seagal

Steven Seagal was once a martial arts star — but his acting has been totally slammed on a regular basis. “His on-screen personality is petulant and humorless, his voice so grating you want to reach for a mute button,” The Seattle Times wrote of On Deadly Ground. Seagal has rarely gotten glowing reviews from his co-stars, either.

30. Kate Beckinsale

Kate Beckinsale has made her fair share of critical misses: Pearl Harbor, Whiteout, and the Underworld series, to name just some. But none of the bad reviews seemed to affect her overall self-confidence. After all, in October 2021 she told Howard Stern that she had a “very high IQ” of 152.

29. Dolph Lundgren

Dolph Lundgren has movie star charisma, but his acting talent has often been brought into question. His performance in The Punisher was slammed by critic Christopher Null as “some of the worst acting ever to disgrace the screen.” Lundgren himself has admitted he’s been in some bad movies but thinks he’s done some good ones, too.

28. Zac Efron

Look away, those of you who had their bedroom walls plastered with Zac Efron posters. Because, generally, critics don’t seem to consider the star a very good actor. New Year’s Eve, Dirty Grandpa, and Baywatch all took a critical mauling, for sure. But then he’s also had four movies make over $100 million at the box office.

27. Alicia Silverstone

It was one movie — one you’ve probably heard of — that almost ruined Alicia Silverstone’s career: Batman and Robin. And Silverstone herself is still not a fan of her experience on the flick to this day. She “won” a Worst Supporting Actress Razzie Award for the film — and was put off acting altogether for a while.

26. Jason Statham

Tough-guy Brit Jason Statham is undoubtedly good-looking and charismatic. The question is, though, can he actually act? Well, opinion is kind of divided on that one. Generally, critics seem to take the position that even if he can’t, his movies are usually entertaining and wacky enough that it doesn’t really matter.

25. Jean-Claude Van Damme

Don’t worry if you find Jean-Claude Van Damme bad at acting — because he actually agrees with you. In 2012 he told Total Film magazine that he thought his early career success was “due to [his] destiny more than [his] acting at the time.” He also said, “I was a bad actor, man, but the heart was there.”

24. Megan Fox

Megan Fox was pretty young when she first started out in Hollywood, and she was in some critically reviled movies. Transformers, anyone? But like some of the other people on this list, she found that the comments soon turned into personal insults. In a 2020 interview with Refinery29, she reminded people, “We have to be careful with our words — they’re powerful.”

23. Kaley Cuoco

Kaley Cuoco was very highly paid for her role in The Big Bang Theory, but that didn’t stop fans from occasionally complaining her acting was overrated. And the Razzies apparently don’t rate her much, either, since she was nominated for not one but two movies in 2016. Yet in 2021 she landed an Emmy nomination for The Flight Attendant.

22. Ruby Rose

Ruby Rose hasn’t just been criticized for her acting by film reviewers. At one point, Twitter users piled in on her as well. After she was cast as Batwoman in the TV show of the same name, trolls mocked her acting abilities online so much that she actually ended up deleting her account. There’s such a thing as taking it too far.

21. Robert Pattinson

Do people just not like Twilight? Is that the real takeaway here? Whatever it is, Robert Pattinson probably doesn’t mind. He’s always been pretty self-deprecating about his acting ability. In 2019 he told The Guardian, “I only know how to play scenes, like, three ways.” He added, “I’m nervous on, like, every single movie.”

20. Sarah Jessica Parker

Sarah Jessica Parker was highly awarded for her role in Sex and the City. But when the franchise turned into movies, things went wrong. Sex and the City 2 was utterly slammed — sometimes in terms so graphic, they’re frankly unrepeatable. That’s not even her most-reviled movie, either. Critical flops such as New Year’s Eve and Did You Hear About the Morgans? fared much worse.

19. Charlie Sheen

Once upon a time, Charlie Sheen was the highest-earning actor on TV thanks to Two and a Half Men. But then everything went drastically wrong, and Sheen became better known for his bad headlines than his acting talents. Some people then began to say his acting wasn’t really all that great anyway.

18. Ashton Kutcher

Vox ranks Ashton Kutcher as the third most badly reviewed actor in Hollywood, as over half his movies have received a critical drubbing. He’s slated his own work in the past as well, though. In 2003 he told Rolling Stone, “The first five episodes of That ’70s Show, I was convinced I was going to be fired because I was terrible.”

17. Jennifer Garner

Jennifer Garner has always been a very likable actress, but her movies aren’t always the same way. Many of them have been absolutely critically derided, in fact. Take the ill-fated comic book movie Elektra, for example. Apparently, even Garner herself hated it and only did it because of contractual obligations.

16. Tara Reid

Tara Reid has a lot of Razzie noms to her name. She was nominated twice for My Boss’s Daughter and once for the famously bad horror film Alone in the Dark. The star also has a Stinker Award for Worst Actress under her belt. But in recent years she’s had lots of success with the deliberately, hilariously awful Sharknado series.

15. Sharon Stone

Oh, absolutely Sharon Stone has been in some good movies. It’s just that the bad ones are considered really, really bad. Among these are Basic Instinct 2 — which isn’t a patch on the original — and the truly disastrous 2004 flick Catwoman. She’s arguably had more success outside of Hollywood, having done a great deal for women’s rights and AIDS research.

14. Vince Vaughn

In 2016 the website Vox ranked Vince Vaughn as number 11 on their list of worst-reviewed Hollywood actors. And, well, he hasn’t exactly had many big hits in the middle part of his career. Delivery Man and Unfinished Business were both flops, while Couples Retreat is rated a mere 11 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.

13. Jessica Biel

Jessica Biel’s star has faded over the past decade, and some people think it’s because she just wasn’t as good an actress as her peers. An anonymous agent told the New York Daily News in 2012, “She may be a gorgeous girl, but her acting ability just isn’t where it needs to be. She hasn’t proven that she’s a real actor.” Viewers of The Sinner may disagree, though.

12. Hayden Christensen

Hayden Christensen’s acting as Anakin Skywalker in the Star Wars prequels was critically panned. But was it his fault, or was it the writing? Whatever the case, Christensen pretty much dropped out of the public eye afterward. But now he’s returning to the role of Anakin for the Kenobi series, where he may get to prove the critics wrong.

11. Sylvester Stallone

Sylvester Stallone has been nominated for more Razzie awards than any other actor. And he hates it. Allegedly, he once left an angry voicemail message on the Razzie founder’s phone. Once he got an Oscar nod for Creed, though, Stallone was given the special prize of a Razzie Redeemer Award.

10. Milla Jovovich

Milla Jovovich doesn’t care for her critics. In 2019 she wrote on Instagram, “All my raddest films have been slammed by critics… Dazed and Confused? Seriously? Classic movie. The Fifth Element! You would have thought that was the worst movie ever made if you read the reviews in like ’98. Zoolander? Slammed.” She added, “Every one of those films is now a cult classic. EVERY. SINGLE. ONE.”

9. Shia LaBeouf

Shia LaBeouf has been in some good films, true, but also quite a few poorly reviewed ones. And it seems that if you don’t like the Transformers movies — and so many people don’t — chances are you probably don’t like LaBeouf. But thanks to the controversies surrounding the actor behind the scenes, his acting career has significantly slowed in recent years.

8. Elizabeth Berkley

Elizabeth Berkley’s movie career was dealt a killer blow after one performance in a critically panned film. That was 1995’s Showgirls — a.k.a. one of the most notorious movies of all time. But to be fair to Berkley, director Paul Verhoeven has said he was the one who pushed her to act in an over-the-top style. Thus, the blame should go to him.

7. Adam Sandler

Adam Sandler is one of the worst-reviewed actors working today. His comedies — or, according to plenty of people, “comedies” — have garnered multiple Razzie nominations and lots of flak from critics. And yet when he takes one of his rare dramatic roles, people love it and wonder why he doesn’t do it more often.

6. Katherine Heigl

Katherine Heigl reckons she was blacklisted from Hollywood for being “difficult” after voicing her opinions. And, according to Vox, 61 percent of her films in the past two decades have debuted to bad reviews. Are the two things related? Heigl may not have helped matters when she spoke to Marie Clare magazine in 2014 and blamed the industry for “betraying” her.

5. Arnold Schwarzenegger

Arnold Schwarzenegger has been in some iconic movies, but all the same, he’s not really considered Oscar material. He’s got four Razzie nominations and four wins — yikes. But without his acting career, good or not, he might never have embarked on his political career and become the governor of California.

4. Rob Schneider

Rob Schneider has released 16 films over the past 20 years, but according to Vox, not a single one of them received anything higher than a mixed review. Oh, and Roger Ebert even released a book called Your Movie Sucks, a title based on something he’d once said about one of Schneider’s films. So Schneider probably isn’t going to go into the acting hall of fame anytime soon.

3. Demi Moore

Demi Moore was doing pretty well until the movie Striptease ruined everything. Not only did it bomb at the box office, but it also saw Moore nominated for a Razzie Award. Now, online opinion is divided on whether she was ever a truly good actress or not.

2. Jennifer Love Hewitt

Unfortunately, according to Vox, audiences don’t love Jennifer Love Hewitt. The website announced, “Her ability to star in poorly rated films is timeless: of ten total films, seven rank below 40 points on Metacritic.” She hasn’t actually made a movie since 2013, though. Her star has shone much brighter on television.

1. Kristen Stewart

There are two schools of thought when it comes to Kristen Stewart. You’ve got Team Stewart Is A Great Actress versus Team Stewart Is A Bad Actress. The latter team is, ya guessed it, mostly made up of people who saw her in Twilight. But with Stewart gaining an Oscar nom for her role in Spencer, maybe Team Great Actress is about to win. Speaking about greatness... Who are the greatest actors in the world?

40. Michael Caine

Since making his on-screen debut in 1946, Michael Caine has gone on to establish himself as one of the United Kingdom’s most iconic actors. Just look at his credits! He’s played soldiers, spies, criminals, romantic leads and held his own with the Muppets. Yep, Caine’s done it all. Plus, the star’s got two Academy Awards to his name, too.

39. Robin Williams

Has there ever been a more gifted comedic actor than Robin Williams? We don’t think so. But he wasn’t just the guy you’d cast for the latest Hollywood comedy. Williams had tremendous dramatic range as well – bagging an Oscar for one such role in Good Will Hunting. On top of that, he also made for an incredibly creepy villain in both Insomnia and One Hour Photo.

38. Peter O’Toole

For our money, one of the greatest Hollywood travesties is that Peter O’Toole never won an Oscar before he passed away. The Academy saw his performance in Lawrence of Arabia, right? It’s iconic! Anyway, that doesn’t define O’Toole’s wonderful career. He consistently delivered – establishing himself as an acting titan.

37. James Earl Jones

Darth Vader. Mufasa. Those two roles alone cement James Earl Jones as a Hollywood icon. The man’s voice is incredible, but his live-action performances are just as good. Jones knocked it out of the park in the three Jack Ryan films during the 1990s, and he displayed his comic chops in Coming to America. The star even came out unscathed from Exorcist II: The Heretic, which is no mean feat!

36. Gregory Peck

Acting careers don’t come much better than Gregory Peck’s. This guy was an absolute machine after he made his on-screen bow in 1944 – popping up in a variety of movies. Peck delivered, too, with To Kill a Mockingbird standing out as his best performance. The Oscar he won for it was certainly well-earned.

35. Christopher Lee

Who else can say that they played Dracula, a Bond villain and the leader of the most famous Pagan cult in cinema history? Christopher Lee really was a bona fide legend. If you haven’t seen The Wicker Man, get on it. Oh, and we can’t forget about his villainous roles in both Star Wars and The Lord of the Rings. Few actors could pull off a bad guy like Lee.

34. Jeremy Irons

Jeremy Irons’ catalogue of credits is something else. For the last 50 years, he’s been wowing audiences with his acting chops in a variety of roles – picking up an Oscar along the way. Yet in our opinion, Irons deserves his place on this list for just one movie in particular: 1988’s Dead Ringers. His dual performance in that film as a pair of messed up twins is staggeringly good.

33. Samuel L. Jackson

If you were to ask us who the coolest man in Hollywood is right now, we’d still say that title belongs to Samuel L. Jackson. And that translates to the screen as well, which gives him an incredibly magnetic presence. Mind you, Jackson can mix it up. Just watch Jackie Brown or Django Unchained. The actor’s characters in those films are very different to the norm – highlighting his excellent range.

32. James Dean

James Dean’s legacy is unmatched in the world of film. This man appeared in just three movies prior to his passing in 1955, but he’s rightly considered one of the acting greats. Each of those performances were fantastic, so it’s impossible for us to pick Dean’s best. Do you have a favorite?

31. Alan Rickman

We think that most actors would welcome just one iconic role during their career, yet in Alan Rickman’s case he racked up several! Yes, the British star’s villainous performances in Die Hard and Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves were glorious. His displays throughout the Harry Potter franchise were great, too. And we can’t forget about Galaxy Quest, which allowed Rickman to showcase his comedic skills.

30. John Goodman

It’s a general rule of thumb that if you see John Goodman pop up in a film, at least some of the movie will be good. The Roseanne star is as reliable as they come, and he’s versatile to boot. Goodman can convincingly play the loveable funny man in stuff like King Ralph and portray a terrifying monster in 10 Cloverfield Lane. That’s quite a talent!

29. Michael Douglas

As the son of the brilliant Kirk Douglas, Michael Douglas had a lot to live up to in the early part of his career. But he’s done more than enough to be considered one of the greats now – showcasing his acting chops in a variety of roles. Wall Street is the stand-out in our opinion. Today, a whole new audience is enjoying Douglas in the Ant-Man movies.

28. Christopher Plummer

Summing up Christopher Plummer’s epic career in one word is incredibly tough. Seriously, just look at his list of credits. The late star acted in over 200 projects! He delivered quality with that quantity, though – picking up an Academy Award along the way. Clearly, few actors can touch Plummer’s output.

27. Gene Hackman

A lot of people will only be familiar with Gene Hackman through his work in the Christopher Reeve Superman movies. Now, there’s no denying that he was a great Lex Luthor, but there was more to Hackman’s career than that. This guy had unbelievable range prior to his retirement. And, fittingly, his two best roles in The French Connection and Unforgiven bagged him Oscars.

26. Heath Ledger

Heath Ledger had already established a formidable legacy by the time of his untimely passing in 2008. Arguably his best performance was as the Joker in The Dark Knight, for which he posthumously won an Oscar. It was a defining performance, yet most of Ledger’s roles up to then provided flashes of greatness. Look at A Knight’s Tale or Brokeback Mountain. He just had “it.”

25. Jeff Bridges

Quite frankly, Jeff Bridges deserves a place on this list for The Big Lebowski alone. His performance as The Dude is iconic. We’re not going to discount his other work, though. You see, while Bridges is perfect for laid-back characters, he can mix it up with more serious roles, too. For instance, the actor nailed it in both True Grit and Crazy Heart – earning an Oscar for the latter.

24. Sidney Poitier

Sidney Poitier cemented his name into movie history when he won the Academy Award for Best Actor in 1964. It marked the first time that an African-American had picked up the honor. Yet Poitier didn’t coast after that. He continued to establish himself as a Hollywood great thanks to movies like In the Heat of the Night and Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner. Incredibly, they both came out the same year!

23. Clark Gable

“Frankly my dear, I don’t give a damn.” That one line from Gone with the Wind has been ringing in our ears for decades, and that’s all down to Clark Gable’s delivery. He nailed it! We shouldn’t be surprised, though, this guy was a tremendous actor. It Happened One Night and Mutiny on the Bounty are further proof of that.

22. Christian Bale

Can you name another actor who’s managed to physically transform himself for a role as many times as Christian Bale? We certainly can’t! Yet beyond that, the British actor’s versatility is arguably his greatest skill. He’s a believable hero in the Batman movies, American Psycho showed that he could be funny and scary... the list goes on.

21. Paul Newman

Paul Newman was a bona fide Hollywood superstar at his peak – churning out several classic films. And he could absolutely back it up as an actor. Newman continued to build his legacy all the way up to his passing in 2008, with the wonderful Road to Perdition marking his last live-action movie performance. And it was a fitting end.

20. James Stewart

Picking out our favorite James Stewart performance is far from easy. This man starred in so many iconic movies, and he was great in all of them. It’s a Wonderful Life, Mr. Smith Goes To Washington, Vertigo, The Philadelphia Story... see what we mean? Stewart even knocked it out of the park in the kids’ classic An American Tail: Fievel Goes West. Yep, he rarely missed.

19. Liam Neeson

Northern Irish acting legend Liam Neeson boasts one of the most unique career trajectories that Hollywood’s ever seen. For years, he was known for being an accomplished dramatic actor thanks to stuff like Schindler’s List. Then following the release of Taken in 2008, Neeson became a huge action star. Plus, 2011’s The Grey showed that he could combine his talents to great effect.

18. Robert Duvall

The Godfather movies are full of memorable characters, but for us, Tom Hagen is one of our personal favorites. And that’s all thanks to Robert Duvall. What a tremendous actor. He’s got more than 140 credits to his name, and you’d be hard-pressed to pick out a lame-duck performance in any of them. Talk about consistency, right?

17. Ben Kingsley

Want to get a feeling of how good an actor Ben Kingsley is? Okay then, consider this. The British actor played Mahatma Gandhi perfectly in 1982’s Gandhi, before doing an equally brilliant job as one of cinema’s great psychos in 2000’s Sexy Beast. That’s range right there. Kingsley’s other credits aren’t too bad, either.

16. Humphrey Bogart

If Casablanca was the only film Humphrey Bogart starred in during his career, he’d still probably make this list. He’s so good in that movie! Yet Bogart had a few other classics to his name as well. The Maltese Falcon and The African Queen are equally memorable thanks to his eye-catching performances.

15. Al Pacino

There’s nothing quite like watching Al Pacino when he’s in full flow on the big screen. He’s arguably the best shouter Hollywood’s ever produced! Mind you, his performances aren’t always boisterous. The Godfather movies and Serpico are excellent examples of that. There are few actors who can balance reservedness and bombast better than Pacino.

14. Ian McKellen

Ian McKellen was already an established actor before the X-Men and The Lord of the Rings franchises catapulted Ian McKellen to Hollywood superstardom. Richard III from and Gods and Monsters are earlier movies of his which are well worth checking out. Oh, and we can’t forget about Last Action Hero. McKellen plays one of our favorite on-screen depictions of Death! What a career.

13. Robert Redford

Robert Redford has an uncanny knack of elevating everything he’s in. That’s not a bad ability to have, right? We can’t imagine films like The Sting, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and All the Presidents Men without him. Today’s audiences are probably more familiar with his work in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Redford’s tremendous in that, too.

12. Morgan Freeman

The Shawshank Redemption. Seven. Amistad. Unforgiven. They’re all fantastic movies, and Morgan Freeman’s presence is a huge reason why. His ability to play world-weary, likable characters is second-to-none. Plus, has there ever been a better portrayal of God on the big screen than Freeman’s in Bruce Almighty? You really can’t beat it!

11. Joaquin Phoenix

It’s difficult to play both loathsome and sympathetic characters with equal effectiveness, yet Joaquin Phoenix has managed that throughout his career. Gladiator and Joker are two brilliant examples, with the latter performance bagging him an Oscar. Stuff like Her, You Were Never Really Here and The Master also show why he’s one of the best actors working today.

10. Clint Eastwood

Whenever you see a strong, silent badass character pop up in a western, you can’t help but think of Clint Eastwood. And it’s much the same with mouthy cops who play by their own rules in action thrillers. He nailed that throughout the Dirty Harry franchise! Eastwood is arguably Hollywood’s steeliest leading man, and he’s still working today. Not bad for a guy in his 90s.

9. Philip Seymour Hoffman

Philip Seymour Hoffman had quite the career prior to his untimely death in 2014. By that point, he was a leading man in some excellent movies like Capote and The Master. That came off the back of his work as a versatile supporting actor – popping up in stuff such as Twister and The Big Lebowski. What made Hoffman so special is that he was great at all that. He owned every role no matter the size.

8. Marlon Brando

When Marlon Brando was on it, few actors starring alongside could touch him. His performances in The Godfather, On the Waterfront and A Streetcar Named Desire were all legendary. We personally love the actor in Apocalypse Now and Superman, too! Brando’s two Academy Awards also showed that the industry appreciated his remarkable talents.

7. Jack Nicholson

Thanks to his display in The Shining, every other actor playing a deranged madman on the big screen gets compared to Jack Nicholson. It can’t be helped! But for as good as his over-the-top performances were throughout his career, the actor could get serious as well. Nicholson’s three Oscar wins are proof of that.

6. Anthony Hopkins

Do you want to see range in an actor? Well, look no further than Anthony Hopkins. He’s played a kind-hearted physician in The Elephant Man, a reserved romantic lead in The Remains of the Day and a bombastic hero in Bram Stoker’s Dracula. Then there’s The Silence of the Lambs and The Father – two hugely different films that won Hopkins a pair of Oscars. Talk about stretching your acting muscles!

5. Robert De Niro

Robert De Niro’s list of credits is absolutely jaw-dropping. This man was appearing in countless classics in the past and established himself as one of the all-time great actors. How can you pick a favorite performance? At a push, we’ll go with Heat – if only for the iconic diner scene between De Niro and Al Pacino.

4. Daniel Day-Lewis

No list containing the greatest actors of all time would be complete without Daniel Day-Lewis. He’s a true master of his craft. But even though he’s turned in a lot of excellent work down the years, he deserves to be here for one performance alone. We’re referring to Day-Lewis’ role in There Will Be Blood. It’s some of the most spellbinding acting we’ve ever seen.

3. Gary Oldman

Honorable heroes. Detestable villains. Rastafarian pimps. Yes, Gary Oldman has done it all in his career, as he’s racked up some truly remarkable performances. The latter role is particularly telling when it comes to his talents. It’s in True Romance – highlighting how an actor can completely transform themselves into an unrecognizable character. We’re still amazed that’s Oldman!

2. Denzel Washington

Can you name a bad Denzel Washington performance? We’re struggling to think of any. He’s one of the most magnetic actors Hollywood’s ever had – owning the screen whenever he’s on it. Meanwhile, Washington’s two Oscar wins were also well deserved for Glory and Training Day. It wouldn’t surprise us if that number goes up before he retires.

1. Tom Hanks

Who doesn’t love Tom Hanks? You’d struggle to find a more likable person than him in all of Hollywood. On top of that, he may well be the best actor. Think about it. He’s ridiculously versatile, injects all of his characters with heart and soul and has a talent which enchants you as soon as he appears on screen. With that in mind, we’re surprised Hanks hasn’t picked up more than two Oscars!
