When Nikki Webster weighed a whopping 649 pounds, she decided it was time to turn her life around. Within two years, she was able to drop an amazing 455 pounds. And the transformation was so huge that Webster could barely even recognize herself.
Webster’s journey began in Little Rock, Arkansas, where she lived with her parents and her brother Chris, a cerebral palsy sufferer. As you can imagine, living as a morbidly obese woman was extremely difficult for a number of reasons.
While featuring in the TLC series My 600-lb Life, Webster spoke about the problems she faced due to being overweight. As a result of her size, she struggled to shower and keep herself clean. But most shocking of all, Webster was hardly able even to stand up.
Although it’s sad to hear, Webster was very aware of the health implications of her weight. “My weight is debilitating. My body is so painful, I hate it,” she confessed in the show. “But I say this to myself: food is an addiction to me, and my addiction is killing me.”
Fortunately, though, Webster wasn’t in denial about her weight – and she decided it was time to do something about it. However, Webster knew that she couldn’t fight her demons alone, and that she needed to look towards professional help.
Webster subsequently decided that she would undergo gastric bypass surgery. But she had to find someone who was willing to operate on a patient of her size. Her father, Terry, was deeply concerned that this wouldn’t be possible. “If Nikki isn’t accepted, I don’t think she’s going to live much longer,” he said.
Tragically, Webster felt the same. While discussing potential surgery, she admitted, “This is my rock bottom, my last chance. And if this doctor can’t do anything for me, I would probably feel like it was a death sentence.”
Thankfully, the doctor in Houston, Texas, was willing to perform the procedure. As a result, TLC decided it would film Webster’s year-long journey for its My 600-lb Life series. In addition, she was later featured on a sister show, My 600-lb Life: Where Are They Now?.
And while the surgery was a success, the hard part was far from over. In fact, this was just the beginning of Webster’s extremely tough journey. That’s because she now had to transform her eating and exercise habits drastically.
Could Webster really transform her life – and stick to those changes? Well, over the course of a year she lost 207 pounds, on top of the 50 pounds that she’d already shed in order to undergo the surgery. So Webster was well and truly on track in her life-saving mission.
It wasn’t just Webster’s weight that was affected, though – her family life saw vast improvements, too. Webster attended therapy sessions to help her stick to her new regime, and they led to her opening up and building bridges with her sister Courtney and mom Llewellyn.
The episode of My 600-lb Life ended with Webster looking towards the future, in which she hoped to lose another 200 pounds. Then, the follow-up show began with her continuing to do all she could to shed those extra pounds.
But while Webster lost a further 92 pounds, she then encountered some difficulties following a personal tragedy. “Earlier this year, my best friend Michael had a gastric bypass, and he died,” she said. “That haunts me.”
Thankfully, Webster didn’t let this trauma divert her from her efforts shed more weight. She continued to lose the pounds, and the promise of skin removal surgery provided a real incentive. Around a year and nine months after her journey began, Webster weighed a little under 350 pounds and had had more than 50 pounds of excess skin taken off.
Later on in the episode, Webster, who weighs 236 pounds at this point, can be seen buying her first ever pair of jeans. This is a big moment for her, and it’s clear to see how excited she is at the prospect of trying on pants for the first time in ten years.
Despite Webster’s success, though, she still doubted herself at some points along the way. “I currently don’t own a single pair of pants, and I’ve been waiting for this day forever,” she said. “I never ever really believed that I would be at this point, and I am.”
“When I look at myself in the mirror, sometimes it’s hard for me,” Webster continued. “I have to readjust my eyes, because I don’t believe I am seeing what I am seeing. But, to be able to start to resemble what I felt like on the inside, it’s extremely powerful.”
During the course of her journey, Webster’s confidence had grown and grown. And this led to an unexpected date proposal from her friend Marc. While My 600-lb Life was being filmed, Webster was excited to see where the couple’s relationship would lead – and since then the pair have married.
As the show came to a close, it was time to find out whether Webster had achieved the goal that she’d set at the end of the first year of her transformation. So, she went back to Texas to visit Dr. Nowzaradan for a weigh-in.
Amazingly, Webster had achieved her goal. She’d dropped to 194 pounds, meaning that she had lost an incredible 455 pounds in only two years. Her transformation from someone who once weighed 649 pounds has no doubt been an inspiration to many. And Webster proved that with determination, she could turn her life around.
