It’s traditional to give up a luxury or nominated food in the run-up to Easter. However, in March 2019, Del Hall, a sales director for a Cincinnati brewery, turned the convention on its head. He gave up all food in order to live on beer for 46 days and saw a surprising effect on his health.
Hall was inspired to undertake his beer-diet challenge by Bavarian monks’ fasting rituals back in the 17th century. He told the Cincinnati Enquirer newspaper in March 2019, “Fasting is a big part of being human, and we don’t really do that any more.” Aside from the challenge, the 43-year-old hoped he could break his dependence on junk food.
