Princess Charlotte of Cambridge came into the world on May 2, 2015, and she instantly stole the hearts of pretty much everyone in Britain. She’s already shaping up to be a mini version of her mom Kate, who’s known for being both beautiful and fashionable.
A mere ten hours after she was born, Princess Charlotte was taken outside St. Mary’s Hospital in London and shown off to the press and public. Photographers eagerly gathered around to snap cute photos like this one.
She was wrapped up in a white shawl and carried in her mother’s arms, but Princess Charlotte didn’t actually have a name at this point. All the media knew was that she was healthy, that she weighed eight pounds and three ounces and that she was fourth in line to the British throne.
Charlotte’s name was announced on May 4, 2015 as “Charlotte Elizabeth Diana.” The “Diana,” of course, comes from the late Princess Diana, Charlotte’s grandmother. And Charlotte, it appears, has inherited her bright blue eyes.
When Charlotte was five weeks old, then, Kensington Palace gave the entire world a nice surprise. It shared some frankly adorable pictures of Charlotte and big bro Prince George getting getting to know each other, releasing them via the official Kensington Palace Twitter feed.
The Duchess of Cambridge is actually a keen photographer in addition to being a royal and a mom. And she’s good at it, too: she often photographs Prince George and Princess Charlotte herself, capturing beautiful displays of sibling love between the two. Awww!
Charlotte was christened on July 5, 2015 in a much-publicized event for the royal family. And like her grandmother, mother and brother before her, she instantly became a fashion icon: everyone wanted to get their hands on her vintage baby carriage!
People were also very interested in what she was wearing. It was, in fact, the same royal christening gown that had been worn by her brother, Prince George – a replica of the one used by Queen Victoria’s children.
Kate got behind the camera again in November 2015, and Kensington Palace’s Twitter page released her sweet new Charlotte pictures to the delight of the mini princess’ fans. The palace also announced with the snaps, “The Duke and Duchess continue to receive warm messages about Princess Charlotte from all around the world and they hope that everyone enjoys these lovely photos as much as they do.”
The royals may live a life of luxury, but actually Princess Charlotte’s clothes are more than affordable for the average person. Still, the dress she was wearing in the pics may have only cost $30, but that cuteness can’t be bought.
Christmas 2015 aptly brought another treat for those who wanted to see more of the princess. And this time it was Kensington Palace’s Instagram account that released another picture of her and her family, showing Charlotte smiling happily while being held in her mother’s arms.
In March 2016 Charlotte was treated to a skiing holiday in the French Alps with her family. It was the first time, Kensington Palace said, that either Charlotte or George had played in snow.
Possibly the cutest Charlotte-in-the-snow picture, though, was the one taken with her father by her side. William dotes on her and, in interviews, has called her “very easy, very sweet.”
Don’t think this was anything like the average vacation, however. The family arrived by private jet, stayed in the priciest district and had a staff entourage with them. All that, and baby Charlotte won’t even remember it; still, at least she’ll have the photos.
May 2016 saw an important milestone for the princess, as that month she she started walking. Her new skill was captured in one of a set of family photos again taken by Kate, which showed her toddling along with a trolley full of building blocks.
Although Charlotte won’t be picking her own clothes just yet, she seems to be on her way to becoming a very feminine, girly-girl young lady. She’s so pretty in pink.
Mind you, she’s pretty in blue, as well. Every time the public’s caught a glimpse of her she’s been better dressed than most adults, which means that replicas of her outfits are selling like hotcakes. She’s a true trendsetter.
“We hope that everyone enjoys these lovely photos as much as we do,” wrote Kensington Palace’s Twitter handle as it uploaded this cute Charlotte picture. Check out that bow; so stylish.
It’s a busy life for a baby royal. June 2016 saw Queen Elizabeth II’s 90th birthday, and to mark the occasion there was a spectacular fly-past over London. Charlotte, by the looks of it, loved taking in the celebrations.
The ceremony also marked Charlotte’s first true acknowledgement of her adoring fans. The crowd cheered for her when she arrived in Kate’s arms on the balcony, and she gave them a royal wave back.
Not many people can claim to upstage Her Majesty – especially during her own birthday celebrations – but Princess Charlotte arguably did. She’s achieved so much already, and she’s only one year old. We can’t wait to see what she does next.
