While it seems like we know everything there is to know about the man that is Donald Trump, his five kids from three separate marriages are far more of an enigma. In fact, here’s a whole host of surprising facts about Trump Organization executive vice president Donald Jr (38), real estate developer Ivanka (34), Trump Org vice president Eric (32), socialite Tiffany (22) and Trump’s youngest son Barron (9).
20. Eric and Ivanka didn’t vote for their father in the 2016 presidential primaries
How’s this for awkward? In the New York primaries Donald Trump lost out on a couple of surefire voters in the shape of two of his own children. Both Eric and Ivanka – who were previously registered in the Big Apple with no party affiliation – failed to change their alliances to Republican in time and therefore couldn’t cast their votes.
19. Barron is a bit of a linguist
Donald Trump may have trouble grasping his native language sometimes, but his son Barron was already fluent in Slovenian by the age of just nine. He must get his linguistic skills from his mom Melania, who hails from the former Yugoslav country and also speaks English, French, Italian and German.
18. Donald Jr. spent his childhood summers in the Czech Republic
Barron isn’t the only Trump son with connections to the Eastern Bloc, though. When Donald Jr. was growing up, he spent his summer months in the Czech Republic with his grandfather Milos. He told New York Magazine, “My father is a very hardworking guy, and that’s his focus in life, so I got a lot of the paternal attention that a boy wants and needs from my grandfather.”
17. Ivanka has an unlikely friend
Their respective parents may now be at war with each other, but according to Chelsea Clinton, she and Ivanka Trump will remain unlikely BFFs whoever becomes the 45th President of the United States. “It has nothing to do with politics,” the former – and perhaps future – First Daughter told Extra. “We were friends before this election; we’ll be friends after this election.”
16. Eric is a celebrated philanthropist
In 2013 Eric was named as one of the 20 most important young philanthropists by the New York Observer – a paper which, however, just happens to be published by his brother-in-law Jared Kushner. Cynicism aside, though, Eric has no doubt done a lot of good through his eponymous foundation, which fundraises for the seriously ill kids of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
15. Ivanka changed her religion
Before marrying Jared Kushner in 2009, Ivanka underwent an Orthodox conversion to become a Jew. And now she not only raises her family on a kosher diet, but she also honors the Jewish Sabbath. She told Vogue, “I really find that with Judaism, it creates an amazing blueprint for family connectivity. From Friday to Saturday we don’t do anything but hang out with one another.”
14. Barron has plenty of room for his toys
While most nine-year-old kids are more than content with just their own rooms, Trump’s youngest son Barron has a whole penthouse floor to call his own. As for what exactly is in there – well, Melania divulged to Parenting magazine in 2015 that her little boy has spruced up the space with airplanes and helicopter-themed decor. He also often retreats to his mammoth part of the Trump abode with mom to play with Legos or get constructing with Magna-Tiles.
13. Ivanka is a best-selling author
Ivanka is obviously a woman of many talents: alongside holding kudos for her successful business ventures and stint as a model, she’s also a respected author. Indeed, she’s even made the New York Times’ Best Seller list with her 2009 self-help guide, The Trump Card: Playing to Win in Work and Life.
12. Tiffany has pop star ambitions
Ivanka isn’t the only Trump daughter with several strings to her bow, however. In 2014 – while still a University of Pennsylvania undergrad – Tiffany released “Like A Bird,” a heavily AutoTuned electropop track featuring guest artists Sprite and Logic and, er, heartfelt lyrics like “We living it up/Shine like aluminum foil in the club.”
11. Eric has a TV producer wife
Eric’s appearances alongside his father on The Apprentice aren’t his only connection to the TV industry. That’s because on Independence Day 2013 he popped the question to his longstanding girlfriend, Lara Yunaska, who works as an associate producer for CBS news show Inside Edition. And she said yes. The pair tied the knot at the Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach, Florida, in November the following year.
10. Tiffany has been a catwalk model
Just like big sis Ivanka, Tiffany is no stranger to the catwalk, given her appearance at New York Fashion Week in 2016. The Donald’s youngest daughter made her runway debut to model for Just Drew, an apparel brand spearheaded by Tiffany’s pal Andrew Warren.
9. The Trump family is getting bigger
The Trump dynasty has grown considerably over the past decade thanks to Ivanka and Donald Jr.’s broods. The former has three children – Arabella Rose, Joseph Frederick and Theodore James – with husband Jared, while the latter has five with wife Vanessa: Kai Madison, Chloe Sophia, Donald John III, Tristan Milos and Spencer Frederick.
8. Tiffany is part of the “Snap Pack”
There’s been the Rat Pack, the Brat Pack and the Frat Pack, and now, thanks to one of The Donald’s offspring, there’s the Snap Pack. Tiffany and her friends – who include moneyed socialites like Kyra Kennedy, Peter Brant Jr. and Gaia Matisse – were given the label by The New York Times owing to their obsession with posting photos on social media of their glitzy nights out on the tiles.
7. Ivanka turned down appearing on a reality TV favorite
Having appeared on The Apprentice, Project Runway and 2013 documentary Born Rich, Ivanka Trump is no stranger to reality TV. In her single days, however, she nixed multiple offers to be the object of various men’s affections on The Bachelorette, concerned in part about the effect that it may have had on her career as a real estate developer.
6. Donald Jr. was made to earn his allowance
He may be the son of one of America’s wealthiest men – and, certainly, he’s admitted to having been somewhat overindulged as a youngster – but Donald Jr. has also claimed that he was nevertheless raised to appreciate the value of money. To that end, Don was, as a 13-year-old, forced to earn his keep by working as a dock attendant at Atlantic City’s Trump Castle.
5. Ivanka made a cameo in her favorite TV drama
A long-time fan of soapy drama Gossip Girl, Ivanka got the chance to rub shoulders with some of its cast members in 2010 when she and husband Jared made cameos in a fourth season episode. Since the pair both played glamorous partygoers, though, it’s fair to say that their brief roles weren’t exactly a stretch.
4. Tiffany’s name has a Trump business connection
Tiffany was named after the high-end jewelry brand that has a strong connection with her dad’s empire. Indeed, The Donald’s most famous piece of real estate, Trump Tower, only came to fruition after he bought the air rights above the Tiffany and Company store on Fifth Avenue back in the ’80s.
3. Ivanka and Donald Jr. once donated money to their father’s presidential rival
Okay, so they may not have been huge donations – given their own enviable net worths. But it’s still a surprise to learn that both Donald Jr. and Ivanka dug into their own pockets to support Hillary Clinton, now their father’s main rival, in her failed 2008 presidential campaign. Donald Jr. gave the 2016 Democratic contender $4,000 in total, while Ivanka handed over $1,000.
2. Tiffany interned at the ultimate fashion bible
Tiffany’s connection to the fashion world extends beyond her catwalk appearance and membership of the Snap Pack elite. Possibly aided by the Trump name, in 2011 a teenage Tiffany managed to bag one of the most hotly contested internships in journalism – at Vogue magazine.
1. Donald Jr. is married to an Oscar winner’s ex
Donald Jr. tied the knot with model Vanessa Haydon in 2005 at the same Palm Beach location that his brother Eric would use as a wedding venue nine years later. But before she became Mrs. Trump, a twenty-something Vanessa reportedly went out with none other than future Oscar winner and serial supermodel dater Leonardo DiCaprio.
